JASON PAUL LAXAMANA, 28, is a Kapampangan filmmaker from Angeles City whose body of work includes "Astro Mayabang" (Cinema One Originals 2010), "Babagwa" (Cinemalaya 2013) and "Ang Taba Ko Kasi" (Cinefilipino 2016). His most critically-acclaimed film, "Magkakabaung," won several awards in the Philippines and abroad such as: Best Film and Best Director at the 2014 MMFF New Wave, Best Film, Best Director and Best Screenplay at the 2015 Gawad Tanglaw and Gawad Pasado, NETPAC Award for Best Asian Film at the 3rd Hanoi International Film Festival and Best Film at the 3rd Silk Road Film Festival in Dublin.
In 2016, Laxamana crossed over to the mainstream film industry with his first commercial movie, "Love Is Blind," under Regal Films, which became a blockbuster hit. He, however, remains active in the independent scene as not only a director ("Nuclear Family" under BG Films International) but a scriptwriter as well, having written the screenplays of "Balatkayo" by Neal Tan (BG Films International) and "Dos Mestizos" by Petersen Vargas (Cinema One Originals 2016).
A graduate of BA Broadcast Communication from the University of the Philippines Diliman and a former instructor at the Holy Angel University and De La Salle College of St. Benilde, Laxamana also spearheads the annual Kapampangan short film competition in Central Luzon, the CineKabalen Kapampangan Film Festival. It aims to encourage young filmmakers from the region to make Kapampangan language-films and contribute in the development of Kapampangan cinema.
