DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT
Amador T. Daguio’s short story, “The Wedding Dance”, is regarded as a literary gem written by a Filipino that particularly gives a glimpse of some parts of the culture of the Cordilleras. To bring it to life onscreen acknowledges the legacy of the author. There has been struggles for the stand of women in a patriarchal community. It is aimed to show the struggles of women who are unable to bear children when the legacy of a man (their husband) is dictated by how his name will continue through his heirs. This indirectly addresses present day issues: the discussion of marital separation (and divorce) that happened to be a long time practice in certain communities in the Cordilleras; and, the other is adoption for couples unable to borne children of their own. There may be a slew of films that has tackled stories of the Cordilleras. But many have been shared in the voice of outsiders. It is about time that stories are to be shared through the voice of the insiders, a story from the Cordilleras by Cordillerans, in a bigger stage.
